SPUR Holiday Cheer Drive
Through the annual SPUR Holiday Cheer Drive, we provide winter essentials and meaningful holiday gifts to over 600 local children, as well as adults experiencing homelessness in Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, Salem, and Swampscott each holiday season. Caseworkers, counselors, and other social service providers work with each recipient to create a unique wishlist that includes something the recipient wants, something they need, something to wear, and something to read.
Each November, the wish lists are posted online, where you can browse and sign up to sponsor a wish list. Lists are searchable by the recipient's gender or age or by a specific toy or interest. When they are done shopping, sponsors return the fulfilled wish list to the SPUR office.
Volunteers then wrap the gifts and pack them into handmade or decorated pillowcases created by SPUR's Sew Good volunteers to make a Bundle of Cheer. These unique cotton pillowcases do more than a gift bag ever could - they provide a needed item for many recipients and reduce the number of single-use gift bags that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
